Software Architect, Engineer & Leader — Forty Years of Craft

This site is being rebuilt. The full archive of projects, case studies, and writing will return in due course. In the meantime, the pages here offer a brief introduction.

Fred Lackey

For four decades, I have practiced the discipline of building software — from the earliest days of desktop computing through the present era of artificial intelligence. My work has spanned enterprise architecture, full-stack development, team leadership, and the modernization of legacy systems that organizations depend upon but struggle to evolve.1

The through-line of my career has been a conviction that technology serves people, not the reverse. Whether fortifying systems for CISA and the Department of Homeland Security, delivering enterprise-scale work for clients such as Travelers Insurance within that engagement, or building the platform that powered Spotless for over a decade, I have sought to bring clarity to complexity and craftsmanship to code.

Today, my focus turns toward the integration of AI into practical development workflows — not as a replacement for human judgment, but as an amplifier of it. I write about this work, build tools that embody it, and continue to refine the architectural thinking that has guided every project I have undertaken.
